Artist Bio

Jordan Labbe

Jordan Labbe is a multifaceted artist who utilizes visual and literary arts to represent narratives that are expressions about the human experience, particularly the emotive and spiritual nuances that we embody. Her work offers the viewer a space to reflect on cultural notions, social relevancies, and spiritual revelations that influence life.

As a writer, Jordan's work is mostly comprised of poetry, lyric essays and memoirs. Her pieces are described as a journeying through unknown and familiar spaces, melodic storytelling that unveils identity and purpose. Her paintings and multimedia works are done primarily on large stretch canvas, where she expresses a dynamic of word and image. She utilizes a visual language of opaque and transparent colors, organic forms, and movement.

Jordan’s current interest is in the topic “Rivers that Speak”. The aesthetic qualities of rivers on canvas are expressed by interconnectedness, texture, and energy. The development of her work reflects what expressionist painter Vassily Kandinsky refers to as the artist's "inner experience" that is universal and correlated to consciousness.

Jordan encourages art that calls for thought about the way in which art collides with life, and provides her viewers with an experience that speaks to an awareness of her environment- socially, metaphysically and in the natural world.
